To uplift the spirits of those in need through portraiture.
The Olivia Act is named after Olivia Engel and my photographer friend's daughter, inspired by all the innocent lives killed in the Sandy Hook tragedy.
The idea is simple, find a need and fill it.
Oliva Engel's family had recently had family portraits taken prior to that horrific day this past December. Being a photographer, that sort of thing tugs at your heartstrings. While I give my time throughout the year whenever I can, this was one more reason to give back to a family in need the only way I know how - through photography. Thousands upon thousands of photographers through the country and even the world have joined together to do just that - give portraits to people in need, free of charge. Some have raised the bar and found makeup artists and clothing stores willing to donate. Others have been inspired to help in other ways not even related to photography. And that's all we can ask for - simply, just give. Give what you can, however you can.
While I vow to find at least one family in need every December, you can nominate a family at any time. I might pick them in December, I might find time another time of the year. If I can't fit them in, or you're not in my area, I suggest finding someone else in your area here:
