Ok, the first post from the workshop a few weeks ago! Before i get into some photos, let me tell you how it all went down :-p I think Justin and I were the only folks from way far outta town...we drove 4 hrs. We drove up on Saturday afternoon and spent the night at the Holiday Inn in McKinney, Tx. The nicest holiday inn ive ever stayed in. We got a room with a king bed and this cool little office space - and i wanted to stay there longer than just one night. It was 5 minutes from the awesomeness that is the McKinney Cotton Mill. I've seen so many pictures come out of this place, from lots of photographers, and you pretty much have an unlimited resource for coming up with something creative out there. The price of the workshop alone was worth it to get to photograph on the cotton mill grounds. Anyway - we all showed up bright and early by 8AM Sunday...once we all finished breakfast, and chatted a bit with new people, we headed outside to watch Leslie do her thing. It was fairly fast paced, switching couples every 5-10 minutes, as we just basically walked down the street. Leslie would shoot a few frames, tell us about her vision, talk to us about composition, and then let us shoot a few frames before moving on. After about an hour, we branched off into groups. There were so many models that we basically got to be one on one with them! Every 15-20 minutes, we would kinda wonder to another group/model and see what else we could do. I'll explain my time with each model as i post their photos. About noon, we went in for lunch and downloaded our pics. Leslie ran through hers - showed us her straight of camera images, what she does in lightroom, and then what she does in photoshop. And she'd show us what she would do with our images if we asked. It was super cool to see everyone's straight out of camera images vs. edited ones because everyone's different. Everyone has a different vision. We had to leave about an hr prior to the end to hit the road, but it was totally worth it. If you ever have the chance to go to one of Leslie Spurlock's workshops - do it!!! (which by the way - she has another one coming up in March!! And you get her lightroom presets that she's selling now too! - get all the details on her facebook!)
And onto some photos. This is Abbie - she was one of our models for a trash the dress session. I was a little sad that I didnt get to work with her longer, but at the same time, I'm really excited about what I was able to capture anyway! I had just finished shooting a bride and groom at this location where Abbie is laying, and was waiting to switch groups when Abbie laid down here. So in about 3 minutes, I snagged these images and I couldnt be happier to add these to my portfolio. She. Is. Stunning. Stay tuned for a few days as i post more!
And my favorite! Look how her just looking up changes the whole feel of the photo...
